97 Orchard

97 Orchard Street is currently home to New York's Lower East Side Tenement Museum. Having visited there a couple of years ago, I was delighted to find Jane Ziegelman's book. The book is a culinary history of the waves of immigrants who populated the Lower East Side of Manhattan at the turn of the century: Germans, Irishmen, Jews from Eastern Europe & Russia, and Italians... a different look inside the American "melting pot", this time full of pasta, potatoes, sauerkraut & greens. Yum.
