Keene Public Library Launches Summer Reading Program with Beethoven’s Wig

The Keene Public Library begins the annual summer reading program on Tuesday June 19 with a family piano sing-along concert performed by Beethoven’s Wig.  The group's first album Beethoven's Wig: Sing Along Symphonies was released on Rounder Records in 2002. Within a week of its debut, the group’s leader Richard Perlmutter was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. Hailed as opening the door to "serious music" in a way that's fun, Beethoven's Wig is now the most honored musical group in family entertainment. The musical performance begins at 6:30 p.m., but families can arrive early for refreshments and to register for the summer reading program. The Keene Public Library is located at 60 Winter Street.

Throughout the summer readers of all ages will explore the night as Public Library present’s “Dream Big – READ!” with a variety of programs, events, and celebrations. The 2012 Summer Reading Program is open to young people with programs, prize drawings, story hours, a reading club and more.  Families are invited to join the Read-to-Me portion of the program.  Teens are encouraged to participate in “Own the Night,” the library’s teen summer library program. Adults can join their own program “Between the Covers.” Registration for the library’s summer programs begin June 7.for more information, call the library at 603-352-0157 or visit our website, www.keenepubliclibrary.org. Activities and events will be offered all summer long at the Keene Public Library. All programs are free and open to children of all abilities.

The Summer Reading Club is the Keene Public Library’s largest and most popular program of the year. The club offers levels for children, young adults and adults.  Participants read what they want at their own pace and are rewarded incentives for the time they read. Reading children will keep their brains active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed.  The library encourages everyone to stop by and register for the program during the kickoff event.  When readers register, they will receive information and a free book.
