Volunteering at the Keene Public Library

The library welcomes new volunteers!

Volunteers are important to the quality service that the library offers. Volunteers help put away books; they lead programs; they help students with homework.

Days and hours are usually flexible - you decide when you want to work.

Here are some of the things our volunteers are currently doing:

Our Current Volunteer Needs Include:

Book Discussion Leaders
Chess Coach
Film Docent
Gaming Volunteer
Homework Helper
Teen Program Assistant

For volunteer or intern positions, please call Gail Zachariah at 603-352-0157.

All adult volunteers and interns are required to have references and a background check which includes fingerprinting. Forms and instructions for volunteers 18 years of age and older are available in a Volunteer Information Packet.

If you are a teen between the ages of 14 and 15, you will need to submit a completed New Hampshire Youth Employment Certificate to the Keene Public Library before you can volunteer. (To get a certificate, you need to fill out this form and take it and a birth certificate to the Keene High School). If you are between the ages of 14 and 17, you need to return to the Keene Public Library a completed VolunTeen application. You can read about our expectations of volunteers in this VolunTeen Manual.  Unfortunately, if you are under the age of 14, you can not volunteer at the Keene Public Library.

If you wish to intern at the library, there is a separate process. Forms and instructions for interns are available in this Intern Information Packet. The library welcomes interns but we rarely have paid internship opportunities at the Keene Public Library.
